Demo Download #4: Ohmstead Sessions
A Lamniformes one-off & sneak peak at a new extreme metal project
Welcome to your monthly Demo Download. Today’s entry contains one reconstructed midi demo of a lost Lamniformes song, as well as eight tracks from my recording session at Ohmstead Studios for the extreme metal band A Lake Within The Earth. This octuplet of songs contains to date the most highly concentrated high octane METAL drumming of my career. Over the two days I spent recording with Seth Engel I played more double bass, blast beats, thrash breaks, two-steps, and other assorted caveman pummeling techniques than I have in any other two-day stretch of my life. I left with my legs sore. Good thing Ohmstead is conveniently a ten minute walk from my house.
Now the songs head back east into the hands of my bandmates Coleman Bentley and Ivan Belcic, who will record their guitars and vocals respectively. The uploads below contain only my drums and the scratch guitar tracks that I recorded to, including a click track. Typically I’d play each song three or four times all the way through and then join Seth in the control room to pick our favorite parts from each take for the final cut. Some songs required a few extra passes on specific parts in the event that the full takes yielded nothing useful for a particular section. We stopped on both days to drink coffee, catch up, and eat sandwiches for lunch. Then it was back to the tunes. I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed playing them.
