Live music is back, baby! I will be playing drums with my old friends in Bellows on November 23rd at the illustrious Elsewhere in Brooklyn. Joining us are Office Culture, who I caught Mercury Lounge recently and thoroughly enjoyed, and Crosslegged, who I have not seen live yet but am I excited to come November.
This will be Bellows’ second show since the March 2020 lockdown. Our first was a sold out rooftop gig at Wet Spot. This Elsewhere show is the first indoor “pro” venue show on my calendar and boy am I excited to get back to it! I’ve always liked playing and attending shows at Elsewhere, so I couldn’t ask for a better roof to drum under. You can grab tickets to this show here.
If you don’t live in New York and you’d like to watch us play some tunes, or if you do live in New York and want to verify that our new line up and tunes are indeed dope, you can watch Bellows performing on the Disposable America Twitch channel on October 19th. Check out this pretty poster:
In addition to these drumming engagements I’ve got some exciting showcases for my composing coming up.
First, I wrote the music for Emmet Penney’s “Nuclear Barbarians” podcast, which makes a compelling case for nuclear energy as the best route to move away from fossil fuels and combat climate change. Emmet had a very specific fantasy aesthetic that he wanted for the podcast’s music, so I got to have a lot of fun with big loud horn sounds.
I also wrote the music for “Morgus Bootoux’s Shadow Show,” a horror themed shadow puppet show that my friend Preston Wollnor is putting on at Puppetworks in Brooklyn. As a child I found the shows at Puppetworks absolutely terrifying, so I relished the opportunity to write music spooky enough to scare the pants off the next generation of Park Slope kids.
That’s all for now! I’ll report back soon with any future gigs, and I have a very exciting music criticism series in the works that I can’t wait to show you. Talk soon.
