Greetings from my brand new apartment in Humboldt Park, Chicago. My brain and body are in a state of bewilderment from the whirlwind stress of moving during the holidays right after coming back from a week long trip out west, for which I’ll blame this letter’s tardiness. I feel like I’m constantly thinking about at least two different things simultaneously at all times. This bifurcated brain-state is perfect for this particular entry in Playlist Postscript. Halfway through 2017 my entire life flipped over. First I finished recording Sisyphean (on the day Chris Cornell died), then became the head editor of Invisible Oranges (on the day Chester Bennington died) and finally moved out of Chicago back home to Brooklyn where I started a new job and a new phase of my life. With all of that going on it’s remarkable that I had time to listen to any music at all, and yet this playlist contains the most songs of any yet featured in this series. The songs that hold up best in the present will receive the coveted Lamniformes Shark Emoji of Approval (🦈), while the songs that eventually factor into Drumming Upstream will sport the Drum Emoji of Destiny (🥁). Who will earn these retrospective stripes? Who will be left in the dustbin of history? Find out below!
