The Last Normal Month
Welcome to Playlist Postscript. Every month I revisit an old playlist of mine and provide my present day thoughts on my past selections.
In this entry we continue our parallel journey through 2020 with a playlist from The Last Normal Month. When February 2020 began I was freshly recovered from one of the worst colds of my life and only dimly aware of how bad the situation was getting over in China. By the end of the month, which I experienced in Los Angeles where I was visiting for a wedding, things felt like the early goings of a zombie movie. Hand sanitizer was mysterious scarce. Everyone was cracking jokes that betrayed a fear that we wouldn’t be laughing long.
This playlist is a fair amount shorter than last month’s, which is only fair because February is a fair amount shorter than January. What it lacks in duration it makes up in raw quality. Not to toot my own horn, but this playlist is GOOD. This might be the highest percentage of tracks blessed with The Lamniformes Shark Emoji of Approval (🦈) of any entry of Playlist Postscript. It also features two certified bangers bearing The Drum Emoji of Destiny (🥁), which will eventually appear in Drumming Upstream.
